10/22/2015 Rep. Naughton to host dyslexia forum
STATE HOUSE — Rep. Eileen S. Naughton (D-Dist 21, Warwick), chairwoman of the Special Legislative Commission to Assess and Make Recommendations on the Educational Needs of Children with Dyslexia and/or Reading Disabilities, will be hosting a forum for parents to help their dyslexic children succeed in school and life.

The forum will take place Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Warwick Public Library at 600 Sandy Lane in Warwick.

The forum, which is sponsored by Rhode Island Advocacy for Children and Decoding dyslexia R.I., will feature experts on dyslexia, including Dr. Julie Wilson, a leading neuropsychologist at Memorial Hospital, who will speak about how the brain of a dyslexic child works, along with how to recognize the symptoms of dyslexia at school and at home.

The second speaker will be Dr. Andrea Winokur Kotula, a renowned educational evaluator and consultant, who will address how to determine if evaluations for your child are necessary.

Also speaking will be Cris Brodeur, CEO and Christine Barrington, chief general counsel at Access! Education Consulting, who will speak about effective ways to advocate for dyslexic children.
