STATE HOUSE – Rep. William W. O’Brien (D-Dist. 54, North Providence) is thankful that arts education will remain in the newly updated high school graduation requirements for the state’s public schools. Representative O’Brien was informed of this development by Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green at a House Finance Subcommittee on Education hearing held last week.
“This is great news for all of our students, faculty and parents who know and appreciate the value and benefits that arts education brings to our students. As our kids continue to rebuild their educational foundations after the disruptions caused by COVID, arts education serves as a distinctive and important piece to our children’s educational curriculum and I am pleased that the Department of Education agrees and will be including arts education in their newly updated graduation requirements,” said Representative O’Brien.
