2/26/2024 Media Advisory: House Environment Committee to meet Thursday
STATE HOUSE – The House Environment and Natural Resources Committee will meet Thursday to hear four bills relating to the certification of organic farming, a prohibition on new high-heat waste facilities, the removal of freshwater invasive plants and the harvesting of blue crabs at night.

The committee is scheduled to meet on Thursday, Feb. 29, at the rise of the House sometime after 4:30 p.m. in Room 135 on the first floor of the State House. The bills to be heard include:
  • 2024-H 7357 —This bill, introduced by Rep. Michelle E. McGaw (D-Dist. 71, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton), would prevent any new high-heat waste facilities from being licensed in Rhode Island.
  • 2024-H 7516 — This bill, introduced by Rep. Kathleen A. Fogarty (D-Dist. 35, South Kingstown), would direct the Department of Environmental Management to remove freshwater non-native and invasive aquatic plants and work with municipalities to inhibit their growth and spread.
  • 2024-H 7563 — This bill, introduced by Rep. Sherry Roberts (R-Dist. 29, West Greenwich, Coventry), would establish an organic farming certification program administered by DEM.
