7/10/2024 Sen. Mack and Rep. Batista issue statement on Allens Avenue fire
STATE HOUSE – Sen. Tiara Mack (D-Dist. 6, Providence) and Rep. José F. Batista (D-Dist. 12, Providence) are issuing the following statement concerning today’s fire at Rhode Island Recycled Metals on Allens Avenue:

“Once again, the health and safety of the residents of South Providence, and the whole city, is being threatened due to a fire at Rhode Island Recycled Metals.  This is the second time this year that people in the surrounding area are breathing in and being assaulted with toxic smoke coming from a business that has no regard for its neighbors and the environment,” said Senator Mack and Representative Batista.

“When we talk about environmental justice zones, today is a perfect example of why this crucial policy is needed, because the low-income and minority residents of this area have had to endure the constant polluting and environmental devastation of these industries for too long, with their health and safety severely impacted due to the actions of businesses that do not care about the damage they cause to the surrounding people and environment in the City of Providence.  Enough is enough and it’s time that this dangerous business be shut down,” concluded Senator Mack and Representative Batista.
