4/22/2024 MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Finance meets twice this week to hear department budgets, budget articles and legislation
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Finance Committee will meet twice this week to hear testimony on a department budgets, budget articles and several pieces of legislation.
           
The committee is chaired by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton).

On Tuesday, April 23 at the RISE of the Senate (approximately 5 p.m.) in Room 211 of the State House, the committee will hear testimony on the FY 24 Supplemental and FY 25 budgets for the following departments:
The committee will also hear the following budget articles from the FY 25 budget:
The committee will also hear Article 2, relating to the salary for the director of the Department of Health, from the FY 24 supplemental budget.
           
The committee will hear testimony on the following bills:
  • 2024-S 2337, sponsored by Sen. Melissa A. Murray (D-Dist. 24, Woonsocket, North Smithfield), amends the Rhode Island Works Program to expand and increase benefits under the program.
  • 2024-S 2569, sponsored by Sen. Samuel D. Zurier (D-Dist. 3, Providence), changes the formula to determine the state's share of educational cost by adding three new variables to the formula.
  • 2024-S 2717, sponsored by Sen. Pamela J. Lauria (D-Dist. 32, Barrington, Bristol, East Providence), establishes the Medical Primary Care Scholarship program to be administered by the commissioner of Postsecondary Education. This bill is part of the Senate’s Rhode Island HEALTH (Holistic Enhancement and Access Legislation for Total Health) Initiative.
On Thursday, April 25 at the RISE of the Senate (approximately 4:45 p.m.) in Room 211 of the State House, the committee will hear testimony on the FY 24 Supplemental and FY 25 budgets for the following departments:
Among the testimony being heard are the following bills:
  • 2024-S 2059, sponsored by Senator Murray, extends injured-on-duty (IOD) benefits to police officers and firefighters that suffer from diagnosed post-traumatic stress disorders, except under certain conditions.
  • 2024-S 2327, sponsored by Chairman DiPalma, eliminates the sunset provision for the motion picture production tax credit.
  • 2024-S 2814, sponsored by Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio (D-Dist. 4, North Providence, Providence), amends the law consistent with the advent of iGaming and new technology and codifies the payment of investigatory expenses incurred by the State in limited circumstances.
  • 2024-S 3004, sponsored by Chairman DiPalma, clarifies that all costs of goods used and services performed in Rhode Island shall qualify as state-certified production costs.
