|
STATE HOUSE — Sen. Todd M. Patalano was formally sworn into the Senate today as the 2025-26 term of the Rhode Island General Assembly convened.
Senator Patalano (D-Dist. 26, Cranston) will serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee and as secretary of the Senate Labor Committee.
The Senate Judiciary Committee handles all legislation and matters that affect the penal code, judicial system, ethics, open meetings, access to public records and election laws. It also considers the gubernatorial appointments of judges and magistrates through the senatorial function of advice and consent. The Senate Labor Committee is expected to change its name to the Senate Labor and Gaming Committee and to consider laws regarding gambling and games of chance in addition to legislation relating to workers’ compensation and labor laws.
Senator Patalano was one of six new members of the Senate who took the oath of office, which was administered to all 38 senators by Rhode Island Secretary of State Gregg M. Amore.
The Senate began its legislative year today with a program that included the reelection of Sen. Dominick J. Ruggerio (D-Dist. 4, North Providence, Providence) as the president of the Senate.
“I am honored to have this opportunity to serve the people of Cranston at the State House when I’m not serving them in uniform,” said Senator Patalano. “I am excited to get to work this session to address the pressing issues facing our state.”
A lifelong resident of Cranston, Senator Patalano has been a member of the Cranston Police Department since 1995 and currently serves as the Chief of Administrative Services at the rank of Major. He holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the Roger Williams University School of Justice Studies.
